If you’re looking for a fun, screen-free way to keep your kids engaged this summer, the Greensboro Summer Reading Trail is back for its second year—and it’s better than ever!

What started as a unique way to connect families, books, and local businesses is growing into something even more exciting in 2026. Not only are we returning to Greensboro with even more stops on the trail, but we’re also expanding into Kernersville, High Point, and Winston-Salem—so even more families can join in the fun!

What Is the Reading Trail?

The Summer Reading Trail is a family-friendly literacy adventure designed to make reading interactive and fun. Instead of reading at home alone, families get to explore their community while enjoying great books together.

Here’s how it works:

  • Visit local businesses that are official “trail stops” between June 1 and July 31

  • Read a picture book or a chapter from a shared chapter book at each stop

  • Collect stamps on your Reading Trail Map as you go

  • Work your way through the trail while making memories together

  • Join us at the community book fair August 3-8 at Arboro Empowered to pick up your free book prize for completing the trail, and get entered to win a grand prize!

Each location features a book experience, turning reading into something active, social, and exciting.

Why Families Love It

The Reading Trail isn’t just about books—it’s about connection.

Families love:

  • Discovering new local businesses

  • Exploring their community in a new way

  • Spending intentional time reading together

  • Keeping kids excited about reading all summer long

It’s also a powerful way to help prevent the “summer slide,” giving kids consistent exposure to books while school is out.

A Win for the Community

One of the most special parts of the Reading Trail is how it brings communities together.

Local businesses sponsor each stop, creating welcoming spaces for families while also building visibility and connection within the community. It’s a true win-win—supporting literacy while supporting local.

What’s New for 2026

We’re thrilled to be growing!

  • More stops in Greensboro

  • Expansion into Kernersville, High Point, and Winston-Salem

  • ✨ Even more opportunities for families to explore, read, and connect

More details about each new area are coming soon, so stay tuned!
